BOX SCORE (XML) | BOX SCORE (PDF)NATCHITOCHES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (11-24, 2-13 Southland) hung tight early, but gave up eight runs over the sixth and seventh inning and wound up falling 13-3 to the Northwestern State Demons (20-15, 12-5) in a run rule on Saturday at Brown-Stroud Field.

The Privateers fell behind 1-0 after the third inning, but came back to grab what would be their only lead of the game in the fourth. After an infield single by
Jay Robinson led off the frame,
Jonathan Coco roped a double down the left field line to score Robinson and tie the game. Two batters later,
Sam Carriere dropped in a single to make it 2-1.

Northwestern State quickly responded for three runs in the bottom half of the frame. A lead-off triple by CJ Webster started the inning and Caleb Dugas hit a double to tie the game. Nick Heath them came up and hit a double of his own to left to give the Demons a 4-2 lead.

In the fifth, the Privateers squandered an opportunity to get a run back when
Parker Jones was stranded after leading off the inning with a double. The Demons proceeded to open the game up, scoring four runs in the sixth.

A five-run seventh ended the game on a mercy rule as Webster singled in a run to end the contest after seven innings and preserve the sweep for the Demons. Northwestern State racked up 10 of their 16 hits in the final two innings.

Carriere went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Privateers offense.
Ryan Calloway went 1-for-4 and drove in the final Privateers run of the day in the top of the seventh.
Daniel Martinez pitched 3.0 innings plus three batters and conceded four runs (all earned) while walking one and striking out three.

Joel Atkinson went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs. David Fry drove in two and scored two. Heath and Cort Brinson each added three hits to the offensive output. Jeffrey Stovall went all seven innings and didn't allow a walk while striking out two and throwing 80 pitches.

The Privateers are back in action on Tuesday against Jackson State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
