NEW ORLEANS
– The University of New Orleans women's basketball team (8-19, 5-13 Southland) got 16 points from senior, Danielle Davis on Senior Night but it wasn't enough as UNO fell 58-46 to the Northwestern State Lady Demons (19-10, 13-5) on Saturday at the Lakefront Arena.

The Privateers were locked in a defensive slugfest and trailed by only one at 40-39 after Jewel Angelo hit a floater with 8:29 left. However, Northwestern State held the Privateers scoreless for the next five minutes while they went on an 11-0 run to grow the lead to 12. Alexis Martin quickly got it back to single digits by converting a three-point play, but the Lady Demons were able to see out the last three minutes and preserve the win.

"I couldn't be prouder of these seniors and what they have done," said Coach Keeshawn Davenport. "We'll reset and take some time off before we come back for spring workouts. Last year we laid down some slab, this year we put up frames, and next year we'll have a house that the big bad wolf can't blow down."

The Privateers got out to a quick start on the evening as they led 10-5 after the first five minutes of the game. The game went 2:29 without another point until a layup by Keisha Lee. The first quarter ended with the teams locked in a 12-12 tie.

Northwestern State was held to 1-of-8 shooting in the second quarter, but the Lady Demons kept themselves in it with free throws. Northwestern State converted on all 10 attempts and went to the half leading 24-21 as the Privateers were also held to a low percentage, hitting on 3-of-12 shots during the second stanza.

"For me it was the second quarter that was the difference," said Davenport. "Northwestern State hit only one shot in the quarter, but they were aggressive and they got to the line and made their free throws."

The game remained tight throughout most of the second half. UNO never led in the third quarter, but never trailed by more than six points. The Privateers shot 44 percent from the field in the second half and had 15 assists for their season finale. Randi Brown scored 14 points and had four assists and three steals. Shania Woods added nine points and five rebounds.

Northwestern State had three players in double figures. Keisha Lee led all Lady Demons with 14 points. Janelle Perez scored 12 points and Beatrice Attura added 11. Cheyenne Brown and Tia Youngblood had seven boards each and the Lady Demons out-rebounded the Privateers 35-22.
