Volleyball Keeps it Close in Opening Set vs UCA

Privateers are now 9-13 overall and 3-7 in conference action

NEW ORLEANS – Blessing Dunn, Brianna Vega and Kyra Hunter tallied seven kills apiece and Dunn and Kaitlyn Grice each picked up three blocks in the University of New Orleans' (9-13, 3-7 Southland) 3-0 setback to the University of Central Arkansas (19-3, 8-2 Southland) Saturday in the Human Performance Center.

FIRST SET
The Sugar Bears led 23-16 but three unanswered for UNO forced a Central Arkansas timeout. Following the UCA point to make it 24-19, the Privateers picked up a kill by Vega and block by Dunn to cut the deficit to three.

The comeback fell just short in the 25-21 contest in the opener. Vega finished with four kills and four digs in the set and Sarah Thomas led the club with 11 assists.

It was all offense with Central Arkansas hitting .419 and New Orleans going 13-of-22 but UCA's defense came up big late with four blocks.

SECOND SET
The Privateers cut the UCA balanced attack down, forcing nine errors but the Sugar Bears extended their lead 2-0 with the 25-19 win in the stanza. Vega led UNO with six kills and four digs to this point, with Dunn and Lane Hindenburg following (five apiece). Dunn and Grice swatted away two shots.

THIRD SET
It was all Central Arkansas in the third set with the Sugar Bears hitting .429 en route to the 25-14 victory to leave the Big Easy with the 3-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Dunn tied for the match-high with six digs with Thomas' 22 assists leading the way for the Privateers.
