Monroe, Louisiana- Sunday in North Louisiana was indeed a good one for the University of New Orleans Privateers (3-7). Their easy 89-51 win over ULM (2-7) marked the first time they've registered back-to-back wins this season and it was their first road win of the campaign.
As usual, the Southland Conference's leading scorer,
Randi Brown led the way with 28 points. However, the star of the day was sophomore
Asia Woods with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The Houston native's points and rebounds totals are career-highs and produced the second double-double of her career.
Asia's older sister, Shania, got in on the act with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior point guard
Mariah Wright had another solid floor-game with 9 points, 3 assists, 4 steals and only 1 turnover in 32 minutes of play.
Kayla Mundy followed here near perfect performance in the win over Xavier with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.
"I'm so proud of both of the Woods Sisters," beamed head coach
Keeshawn Davenport. "They opened it up with the scoring on the inside which opened up things for us on the outside. And this was our first road win. We've got to pick up some of those in conference. It makes the bus ride home easier."
FIRST QUARTER
After a 2-2 tie, New Orleans went on a 13-0 run to make it 15-2 and were never challenged by ULM. New Orleans held the Warhawks scoreless for 5:45 during the run. Brown led all scorers in the period with 9 points followed by
Shania Woods with 8. The opening stanza ended with a 24-11 UNO advantage.
SECOND QUARTER
New Orleans won the second quarter 22-15, giving them a 20-point, 46-26 advantage at the half. The hot shooting continued as the Privateers went 17-of-31 in the half for 54.8 percent. Brown finished with 18,
Shania Woods had 12. Younger sister
Asia Woods tallied 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. UNO was 4-of-8 on 3 pointers.
THIRD QUARTER
Privateers were 9-of-16 in the third, 55.3 percent.
Asia Woods scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. New Orleans ends the period with their largest lead of the day at that point, 28 points, 68-40.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Privateers outscore the Warhawks in the quarter 21-11.
Randi Brown gad 7 in the quarter before Coach Davenport cleared the bench until the final buzzer.
BY THE NUMBERS
The 38-point margin of victory was the largest of the season for UNO.
The Privateers were 32-of-61 from the floor for 52.2 percent.
New Orleans held ULM to 34 percent from-the-field (17-of-50) and they won the re bounding battle 39-25.
UNO collected 50 points-in-the-paint to 18 for the Warhawks.
This was the first road win for the Privateers since a 71-59 victory at McNeese on 1-26-17. Last season New Orleans was 4-10 on the road.
