Freshmen Account for 39 Points in 87-70 Victory

NEW ORLEANS – The freshmen shined in the second home game of the season as the University of New Orleans (2-5) shot 54.0 percent in the 87-70 defeat of Williams Baptist College (5-3) Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.
 
Damion Rosser led the way with 17 points off the bench, Lamont Berzat added 11 points and Troy Green finished with 11 points.
 
FIRST HALF
Diontae Champion tallied a career-high in just four minutes of action with four points, three steals and two assists by the under-16 media.
 
The selflessness continued as UNO jumped out to a 48-24 lead at the half with 14 assists on 18 field goals (54.5 percent from the field). Leading the way was Damion Rosser with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench. The freshman added two assists. Champion added eight points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists to fill up the stat sheet, followed by Troy Green's seven points. Makur Puou finished the half with six points and eight rebounds and Ezekiel Charles added six points.
 
Lamont Berzat posted five points, three dimes and two thefts in the opening stanza and Travin Thibodeaux rounded out with four points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
 
In the half, UNO scored 24 points in the paint.
 
SECOND HALF
A closer half featured the Eagles outscore the Privateers 46-39 with New Orleans playing all 11 dressed players en route to the 87-70 victory. Williams Baptist hit eight triples in the period.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Rosser led the team with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting in 19 minutes. Berzat added 11 points – nine from three-point range – four assists and two steals and Green finished with 11 points, six assists and zero turnovers. Puou was a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, Champion finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two assists, Charles chipped in nine points, all from long distance and eight rebounds and Thibodeaux came off the bench with seven points, eight rebounds, five blocks and three assists.
 
All in all, the club shot 54 percent from the floor.
 
For the Eagles, Devante Carolina led the way with 19 points – 12 from three-point range. Dominque Dyes was 6-of-10 and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc for 17 points.
