Defense Stifles Islanders in 66-49 Victory

Privateers improve to 3-3 in Southland play

NEW ORLEANS – Randi Brown finished with 29 points, the most since the CSUN victory and the University of New Orleans (7-10, 3-3 Southland) defeated Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (9-7, 2-3 Southland) Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.
Brown went 4-of-11 from three-point range and added five rebounds, Kayla Mundy followed with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Shania Woods posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Mariah Wright added four steals and four assists.
 
The Islanders shot just 27.9 percent from the floor in the loss.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Both teams struggled shooting the ball with the Islanders taking an 11-8 lead into the second period. The Privateers went 2-of-15 while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was 3-of-15.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Randi Brown scored 13 of her 15 first-half points in the frame, going 5-of-7 overall and 3-of-5 from three-point range with the defense keeping TAMUCC to 28.6 percent shooting. UNO shot 53.8 percent and took a 29-22 lead to the half.
 
Jada Duncantell scored three points and added a game-high three assists. Overall, Brown went 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-7 from long distance in the stanza.
 
THIRD QUARTER
The third continued to be UNO's with Brown tacking on 10 points in the 19-14 period. Heading into the fourth, New Orleans led 48-36 with 11 assists on 16 field goals.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
The Privateers ended the week with a split, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 66-49. Seven of Shania Woods' 11 points came in the period.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers head to Conway to take on Central Arkansas Wednesday at 7 p.m.
