Kayla Mundy And Whitley Larry Record Career-Highs As Privateers Fall To Lamar On The Road

Randi Brown, one of the nation’s scoring leaders, continues torrid pace in defeat

Beaumont, Texas- Senior guard Kayla Mundy scored a career-high 21 points and sophomore center Whitley Larry picked up career highs in points (12) and rebounds (10) for the first double-double of her career Wednesday night in Beaumont, Texas as New Orleans (5-9, 1-2 SLC) was defeated by Lamar (8-5, 3-0 SLC), 100-77.
 
Mundy, from Mc Kinney, Texas, was 5-of-10 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line.  She also grabbed 6 rebounds.
 
Kayla's confidence is really on the rise on offense," said head coach Keeshawn Davenport.  "She's taking what the offense is giving her and she knows when to penetrate so she's doing a good job of reading the defense."
 
Larry, from Rayne, Louisiana, was 6-of-9 with a team-high 10 rebounds. The 6-1 sophomore also blocked 2 shots.
 
"Whitley brought great energy off the bench and her rebounding especially on the offensive end created offense and she did a really good job blocking shots," said head coach Keeshawn Davenport.
 
Once again Randi Brown lead New Orleans in scoring with 28 points.  The game marked the sixth consecutive outing in which the senior exceeded the 25-point mark.  The Houma, Louisiana native leads the Southland Conference in scoring averaging 22.6 points a game and is sixth nationally in scoring.
 
The Privateers came into the game leading the Southland Conference in free throw shooting at showed why in Beaumont, knocking down 25-of-27 for a blistering 92.6 percent.  Randi Brown was 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
 
New Orleans also won the battle for defensive rebounds over the Cardinals, 27-18.
 
Lamar, the highest-scoring team in the conference reached the century-mark for the third time this season led by DeA"ngela Mathis with 25 points, Chastadie Barrs and Moe Kinard with 24 apiece and Kiandra Bowers with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
 
The Cardinals forced 25 turnovers and scored 32 points off those turnovers.
 
Up next for the Privateers, a trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana, Saturday January 6, to face the Cowgirls of McNeese.  Tipoff at 1 p. m.
