NEW ORLEANS – Owen Magee added to his multi-hit game with a 2-for-2 performance in the University of New Orleans' (4-4) 8-2 loss to the University of Iowa (5-1) Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.
 
Cody Ducote drove in two runs in the third but Iowa's Cole McDonald allowed just three hits in 7.0 innings to improve to 1-0 on the year.
 
Brayson Smith (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in 0.2 innings. 
Christopher DeMayo went 2.0 scoreless.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring two in the first and two in the second. The Privateers got a couple of runs back in the third on Ducote's single to close the deficit to 4-2.
 
Iowa added runs in the fourth and fifth and two in the ninth to extend lead to 8-2.
 
New Orleans concluded the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic 2-1 with a victory over ACC program Virginia Tech.
