Six-Run Second Propels Privateers Over Nationally Ranked Jaguars

Bratton finished 4-5 with two doubles

MOBILE, Ala. – The offense clicked early and John Michael Stephens tossed a gem in Tuesday evening's 8-2 victory over #RV University of South Alabama (13-11) at Stanky Field. The University of New Orleans (10-15) scored six runs in the second inning and Stephens punched out eight in 6.2 frames to improve to 2-2 on the year.

Beau Bratton was the story offensively as the backstop went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. In the second, the Privateers sent 11 batters to the plate beginning with Bratton's single. Orynn Veillon followed with a base knock and Collin Morrill's base hit brought home Bratton and Veillon to make it 2-0 UNO. Jay Robinson's sacrifice fly, Owen Magee's two-run single and Bratton's double capped off the six-run inning.

That was all the run support Stephens needed as the lanky southpaw gave the bullpen a much-needed break on a short week with a solid 6.2 innings. Fanning eight, John Michael allowed just two runs. Reeves Martin and John Barr tossed scoreless 2.1 to give New Orleans an 8-2 win in the first of two meetings between the Privateers and the Jaguars.

JoJo Booker (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs – three unearned – in 1.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans jumped out to an early 6-0 after batting around the second. USA got a pair back in the third to shrink the UNO lead to 6-2.

New Orleans added a run in the sixth on Bratton's second two-bagger of the evening and a throwing error extended the cushion to six in the eighth.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Privateers will travel to the Lone Star State to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to resume their Southland Conference schedule. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
