CAREER-HIGH FOR VAQUELA PIMPTON, BUT NEW ORLEANS FALLS ON THE ROAD AT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

Nacogdoches, Texas- Stephen F. Austin showed why they are at the top of the Southland Conference standings placing four players in double-figures and defeated the University of New Orleans, 97-38, Wednesday in Nacogdoches, Texas.
 
New Orleans is 5-9 overall and 1-4 in Southland Conference (SLC) competition.  Stephen F. Austin ran its record to 13-3 and 4-0 in conference joining Lamar as the only undefeated teams in the SLC.
 
The play of Vaquela "Pebbles" Pimpton was a bright spot for the Privateers.  The junior college transfer scored a career-high 9 points against SFA.  The Tallahatchie, Mississippi native played 24 minutes, also a career-high. Pimpton also tied career-highs in field goals (3), rebounds (4) and assists (3).
 
UNO's leading scorer and rebounder Shania Woods equaled Pimpton for team-high scoring honors on the night with 9.  Woods, the Southland's second leading rebounder also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals
 
New Orleans never led in the game and SFA jumped out to a 9-0 advantage before the Privateers got on the board at the 4:28 mark of the first period.  The Privateers would fight back cutting the Ladyjacks lead to only 4 points, 17-13, thanks to a Shania Woods layup at the :28 second mark.  However, a 3-pointer by Chanell Hayes, the game's leading scorer with 26, closed the first quarter at 20-13 Stephen F. Austin.
 
UNO was within striking distance until the second period as SFA outscored New Orleans 27-4 and went into halftime with a 47-17 lead.
 
New Orleans was 12-of-53 from the field, 22.6% and they were outrebounded 41-32.
 
Stephen F. Austin shot a blistering 37-of-62 from the floor (59.7%) and 12-of-26 from beyond the 3-point arch (46.2%).
 
For the third time this season, New Orleans scored a season-low 38 points.  The Privateers scored 38 points in loses to Pitt and Miami this season.
