BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team fell just short in the doubles point in a 4-0 loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday during Day Two of the Jerry Simmons Invitational.
Â
The Cajuns won the doubles point that was carried down to the wire.
Samuel Armand and
Johannes Klein went on a roll to seal their match at flight three by winning four consecutive games to bring it to the point clinching match at flight one.
Â
Mats Westkamp and
Misha Fomenkov were up a break at 5-3, but the Cajuns' duo of Pearse Dolan and Arthur Libaud broke serve to stay in the match. It eventually went to a tiebreak that the Cajuns led 4-0. New Orleans rallied back to tie the score 4-4, but Dolan and Libaud won three of the next four points to earn the doubles decision.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns took that momentum and parlayed it into three straight set singles victories to finish off the match in their favor for their second win against the Privateers in the spring. Flights two, four, and five were the triumphs for Louisiana.
Â
Westkamp and Armand won their first sets and the match ended with their singles bouts still in progress. Westkamp won his first set over Pearse Dolan in a tiebreak while Armand took the first set at flight six against Kacper Dworak 7-5.
FROM COACH KANGA
"I thought we were tired physically and mentally today. We're going to win some and lose some but the way we competed in some spots was disappointing. But overall this team is a much improved team. We just have a lot of work to do."
NEXT UP
