Privateers Fall to Stephen F. Austin in Three Sets

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (9-10, 2-3) forced seven ties in the first set of a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-20) loss to the Stephen F. Austin Lady Jacks (17-1, 5-0) on Wednesday evening at the Human Performance Center.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Ehize Omoghibo led the team in kills with six. Rhyan Rand and Lucie Pokorna each added four kills. Brianna Vega totaled three kills on the night. Andrea Nava had seven digs and two service aces. Rand led the team in digs with nine. Shelby Pullins added three total blocks.
 
FIRST SET
The Privateers took the fight to Stephen F. Austin early, tying the score on seven separate occasions. However, the Lady Jacks hit a 5-0 run to put themselves in front 17-12. New Orleans answered with three straight points, but Stephen F. Austin had another big finish with an 8-2 run to close the set.
 
SECOND SET
The Lady Jacks hit .444 (14 kills, two errors in 27 attempts) to set the tone in the second set. The road side never trailed. New Orleans was limited to five kills in the set. Ann Hollas had five kills to lead Stephen F. Austin for the set.
 
THIRD SET
New Orleans fell into a 19-9 hole but had one more late charge. Facing match point down 24-17 New Orleans got a block from Sh'Diamond Holly and a kill from Rand as part of a spurt that pulled the deficit to within four. A Margaret Dean kill however sealed the Lady Jacks' tenth consecutive victory.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will host Central Arkansas at the HPC on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
