BEAUMONT, Texas –
Ehize Omoghibo was unstoppable once again versus the Lamar Cardinals (8-15, 3-10) as the New Orleans Privateers (12-14, 5-8) picked up a 3-0 win on Tuesday night at McDonald Gym.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Omoghibo had 17 kills with no errors in the first match against Lamar. She followed that up with an 18-kill performance on Tuesday.
Rhyan Rand and
Shelby Pullins each added five kills to the attack.
Andrea Nava had 18 digs and
Trinity Jackson added 10.
Lucie Pokorna had 31 assists and three service aces.
Sh'Diamond Holly had three blocks.
FIRST SET
New Orleans broke open a close start to the set with seven straight points that opened up a 17-8 lead. The Privateers allowed an attack percentage of -.053 in the set. Meanwhile, New Orleans committed just two attack errors. Three Cardinal errors closed out the set for the Privateers.
SECOND SET
Lamar opened a 10-4 lead to begin the set but that was where the Privateers began the climb back. The first run cut a 16-9 Cardinal advantage to 17-13. Another Privateer run leveled the score at 20-20 with three Privateers recording kills in that stretch. After an Omoghibo kill gave the Privateers a look at set point, an ace by Ehize finished off the comeback for New Orleans.
THIRD SET
The Privateers opened with a 7-2 run but had to stave off a Lamar comeback that trimmed their lead to one. Four straight points pushed the Privateer lead to 15-10. Lamar cut the lead to 19-18 but the Privateers finished strong to complete the sweep. Kills by Holly, Pokorna, and Omoghibo fueled a 6-1 run to close the night.
NEXT UP
The Privateers head to Thibodaux to face Nicholls on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
