Women's Basketball Outscores Cyclones in Second Half of Sunday Loss

AMES, Iowa – The New Orleans Privateers battled Iowa State throughout the afternoon in a 71-53 loss on Sunday at the Hilton Coliseum in the second game of a Thanksgiving week road trip.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Kayla Thomas led all Privateers with 11 points while also adding four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Nia Jordan finished the contest with nine points and five boards. Annalise Brisco had six points and five rebounds. Jada Duncantell led the team in boards with seven.
 
FIRST QUARTER
The Cyclones started the afternoon by scoring the first nine points. However, the Privateers had a big response waiting. Kayla scored nine points in her first stint off the pine and New Orleans closed the gap to two on two different occasions. New Orleans as a team went 5-for-10 from the field to close the quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Iowa State was held to six points through the first five minutes of the quarter but the Privateers also were held in check offensively. The Cyclones finished the quarter with 14 points with the last three coming on a Jade Thurmon triple to beat the buzzer. That sent the home side to the locker room with a 42-23 lead.
 
THIRD QUARTER
The Privateers were able to make offense difficult to come by for Iowa State as the Cyclones were just 4-for-12 from the field. Meanwhile, Jordan had seven points in the quarter as the ladies in blue outscored Iowa State 18-15 in the stanza.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
It was a valiant effort throughout for the Privateers who held the Cyclones to 6-for-23 from long range for the afternoon. New Orleans also held a 30-29 edge on the scoreboard for the second half. Ines Nezerwa scored a career-high 21 for the Cyclones.

NEXT UP
The Privateers take a break for Finals Week and return to action December 14 at 4 p.m. at Lakefront Arena.
