NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (8-13, 4-8 SLC) saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 76-62 loss to the Nicholls Colonels (13-9, 7-3).
Rehema Franklin scored a new season-high in points while
Shania Woods recorded her tenth double-double of the season in the setback.
FIRST QUARTER
It was a defensive struggle early. Nicholls led 6-4 at the media timeout which came with 4:54 left. From there both offenses turned it up. The Privateers took their first lead at 9-6 on a three by Pebbles Pimpton, but Nicholls quickly tied the game back up on a Cassidy Barrios three. That sparked an 8-0 run over the next 45 seconds for Nicholls. The Colonels exited the quarter with a 20-14 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
Again, both teams struggled to score to start the quarter. There were just two points to each side in the first 5:08 of the quarter. The Colonels slowly edged their way to a 10-point halftime lead at 35-25. The Colonels shot 46.2 percent from the floor and outrebounded New Orleans 21-14 in the first half.
THIRD QUARTER
New Orleans doubled their paint points from the first half in the third quarter alone. The Privateers scored 10 points of their 17 points in the paint, but Nicholls countered by going to the line 12 times. They converted on nine of those trips. The Colonels led by 15 going into the final stanza.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Privateers looked for a big surge with all three point guards on the floor. That lineup helped New Orleans cut the Colonels lead to 59-52 with 5:09 left. Nicholls held off the charge though by answering the next three Privateers baskets. New Orleans could not get any closer than within seven in the fourth quarter.
