Women's Tennis Seals Match Early Over UIW

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (9-6, 2-3) dominated early in the afternoon to earn a 4-3 win over the UIW Cardinals (4-10, 0-6) on Friday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.

The Privateers got a dominating victory at flight three to start their afternoon in doubles. Lea Alguacil and Yurina Asai swept their way to a 6-0 win. Trang Dao and Ank Vullings sealed the deal as they've done routinely this year, winning 6-3 at flight one to secure the first point.

New Orleans then won the first three matches in singles. The first came by default since UIW could not field six singles players. Lea Alguacil got the victory to put the Privateers ahead 2-0.

Mar Gendra blitzed her way to a 6-3, 6-1 win at flight four to put the Privateers on the brink of victory. That was later locked up by Salma Abdelrahim who came back from down a set.

Sara Djurdjevic won the first set by a service break at 6-4. Abdelrahim then dominated by winning the next two sets 6-1 and 6-3 to give the Privateers their second conference victory of the season heading into a match-up against Abilene Christian on Sunday.

The Cardinals won the last three matches all in the third set. Jelena Dordan came back from losing the first set 6-4 to win at flight one. Alejandra Tamayo did the same at flight five. The Cardinals closed the day on a positive note with Victoria Kareh's flight two victory in three sets.

Abilene Christian (9-8, 5-0) is up next for the Privateers on Sunday. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
