Women's Tennis Falls Short in Valiant Effort vs. Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (9-7, 2-4) put up a valiant effort but fell short in a 5-2 loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (10-8, 6-0) on Sunday afternoon.
 
Abilene Christian won a pair of 6-3 decisions to secure the doubles point. Autumn Bellow and Ileana Mocciola won at flight two while Sarah Adams and Nini Memishishi won at flight one to give the Wildcats their first point of the day.
 
Singles started with the Wildcats taking a pair of three-set matches. Bellow came back from losing a second set tiebreak to win the third set 6-1 and take her match. Memishishi rallied back from down a set to win at flight one moving the Wildcat lead to 3-0.
 
Trang Dao put New Orleans on the board in the third match to finish. Dao was locked in a tight battle against Adams who won the first set in a tiebreak. Dao then got a late service break to win the second set 7-5. The senior dominated the third set to win her match at flight two.
 
The match was clinched in Abilene Christian's favor at flight five. Allison Stewart won in straight sets to keep the Wildcats undefeated in Southland play.
 
Mar Gendra got the second point for New Orleans. Her 6-4, 6-3 win over Jordan Henry at flight four to give Gendra two singles victories this weekend.
 
The Wildcats closed the day with a win at flight six.
 
The Privateers' next outing will be a non-conference match against Tulane on Wednesday, Apr. 3. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
