Women's Tennis Falls Short in Hard Fought Match vs. Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team pushed the Tulane Green Wave throughout the match, but fell 5-2 at City Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Trang Dao and Ank Vullings scored a huge win to start the day. In doubles, they defeated Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller who are ranked in the top 50 in doubles tandems in the ITA. Dao and Vullings won 6-3. However, Tulane rallied for the doubles point with a 6-3 win at flight two and a 6-4 decision at flight three.

In singles, Ank Vullings was locked in a 4-4 tie when her opponent withdrew from the match. That tied the score at 1-1. Alvaro put the Green Wave back ahead with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at flight three.

Christina Sisti put the Tulane lead to 3-1 with a straight set win of her own at flight five.

Lea Alguacil was looking to come back from down a set and stretched her opponent to a long tiebreak. However, Adelaide Lavery scored a 15-13 win in the tiebreaker of the second set to clinch the victory for Tulane.

The last two matches of the day both went to three sets. Dao dominated the third set 10-point tiebreak at flight two against Daniela La Fuente. At flight four, Laura Fabrizi squeaked by with a 10-8 victory in her third set.

New Orleans will have a road weekend in conference on tap. The Privateers are in Hammond to face Southeastern on Friday. They then travel to McNeese on Sunday.
