NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (10-9, 3-5 Southland) overcame losing the doubles point to down Nicholls State University (5-14, 1-8 Southland) 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
Ank Vullings and
Trang Dao were victorious at No. 1 doubles 7-5. Nicholls took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
SINGLES
The Colonels took a 2-0 lead with a straight set win at No. 1.
Lea Alguacil eased her way to a win at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Daphne Haverkamp.
At No. 2, Vullings made quick work with a 6-2, 6-3 win to tie the match at 2-2.
Mar Gendra overturned the early deficit to put the Privateers in front 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4.
Yurina Asai won a marathon fifth set to clinch the victory for UNO, 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3.
Salma Abdelrahim added a three-set win at No. 3 as the Privateers, who trailed 2-0 following doubles and the top singles, won singles No. 2-6 to defeat the Colonels 5-2.
NEXT UP
The Privateers host Lamar University Friday at 2 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana University at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Prior to Saturday's contest versus the Cardinals, T.K. and
Brittany Johnson will be honored on Senior Day for their contributions to the New Orleans women's tennis program.
