Kennard Homers in Setback against Jackson State

NEW ORLEANS – Tresten Kennard parked his second homer of the year, but the New Orleans Privateers baseball team (15-14) allowed nine runs in the last three innings and fell 12-4 to the Jackson State Tigers on Wednesday at Maestri Field.

The Tigers broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh innings and added four to their newfound lead in the eighth inning. Nikelle Galatas came in to shut things down over the last two innings to split the season series against the Privateers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got on top while taking advantage of starter, Joshua Swartz. The Tigers' freshman walked three of the first five batters he faced and was pulled after that. Luther Woullard drove in a run on an RBI fielder's choice and Kennard had a sac fly RBI as well.

Jackson State gained their first lead of the game in the third off starter, Brayson Smith. The Tigers took advantage of three hits, two walks, and two errors to take a 3-2 advantage. From there, Tigers reliever Kevin Perez was rolling until the fourth.

Kennard parked a solo home run to lead off the frame and give New Orleans their first hit of the night. That tied the game at 3-3.

The Tigers got back ahead with a run in the top of the seventh. A lead-off single by Raul Hernandez set the stage. He scored from second after an attempted turn on a double play resulted in the third error of the night.  Hernandez drove in another run in the eighth on an RBI single.

WIN-LOSS
The win went to Mario Lopez who pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Cortlynn Ramirez took the loss in his longest outing of the year (four innings) after allowing an unearned run.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will open a three-game series at home against Southeastern on Friday night. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
