LAKE CHARLES, La.Trang Dao and Claudette Gilhespie earned points in singles but the New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (9-9, 2-5) dropped a 5-2 decision to the McNeese Cowgirls (9-8, 4-4) on Sunday at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.

The Cowgirls began the day with a 6-0 win at flight two in doubles. Givoanna Fioretti paired with Carlotta Romito for the victory. At flight one, Charoline Erlandsson and Marija Mastilovic battled their way to a 6-4 win. The match at flight three was in a tiebreak when the point was decided.

Mastilovic was first off the court as she gave McNeese a 2-0 lead with a straight set win. Dalia Ahmed also won in straight sets at flight five to push the Cowgirls advantage to 3-0. The match was decided on the next point finished.

Fioretti won 6-3, 6-3 to seal up McNeese's second win of the weekend. The Cowgirls also defeated Nicholls on Friday. The Cowgirls' fifth point came from flight six when Romito won a third set tiebreak 11-9.

New Orleans picked up two points in the last three matches. Gilhespie won the first set by a break and took the second set in even more convincing fashion as she beat Sofia San Jose Moreno 6-4, 6-2.

Dao gave Erlandsson just her second loss of the spring in 17 matches. The senior rallied back from losing the first set 6-2 and controlled the rest of the match. She took the second set 6-3 and won the deciding set 6-2.

The Privateers' next scheduled match is on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at home against Nicholls and will begin at 11 a.m. The Southeastern match which was postponed last Friday has not yet had a makeup date announced.
