Martin Breaks Saves Record, Gauthier Records Five RBI in Sweep of HBU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (28-24, 12-15) completed their first conference sweep of the season with an 11-5 win over the HBU Huskies (17-33, 9-18) on Sunday at Maestri Field.

Reeves Martin broke the single season saves record in the process, picking up his 14th of the year. He recorded three strikeouts over the last two innings to surpass Ryan O'Shea's 13 saves recorded in 2008. New Orleans finished their 2019 home slate with a 20-11 record.

WIN-LOSS
Bailey Holstein (2-2) picked up the win after pitching four innings of relief. The loss was taken by Zach Carter (4-8).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers and Huskies each traded three-run innings in the first. The Huskies got a pair of two-out singles ahead of a three-run homer from Erik Voller, his third of the season. The lead was short lived however as New Orleans responded with a three-spot of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Collin Morrill hit his second lead-off homer of the year to give New Orleans their first run of the game. The Privateers collected three hits in the opening frame as they forced Carter to throw 30 pitches.

HBU got back on top in the second inning. A lead-off single by Jeremy Simon was followed by two subsequent wild pitches. Two batters later, a squeeze play scored Simon to give the Huskies a 4-3 advantage.

New Orleans surged in front for the first time in the third inning. Gaige Howard reached on an error and Salo Iza doubled into the gap. An RBI single from Antonio Gauthier tied the game. Beau Bratton's RBI fielder's choice gave New Orleans a lead they did not relinquish for the rest of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX
Morrill went 3-for-6 with two runs and landed a triple short of the cycle. Gauthier added his sixth homer of the season and drove in five runs. Mathew Oset faced the minimum number of batters in two innings of relief and threw just 14 pitches. Wade Raburn went 3-for-3. Iza had three hits including two doubles. The 16 hits collected by New Orleans broke the previous single game high this season (15).

The Privateers' final midweek game of the season will take place on Tuesday, May 14 in Baton Rouge against LSU. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
