NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Tresten Kennard, Robert Fabelo, and Darren Willis combined for 11 hits as the New Orleans Privateers (29-27, 13-17) scored a 10-1 victory in the season finale over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (24-31, 16-14) on Saturday at Jaycees Field.
Brayson Smith dominated over five innings for his second win of the season. The Privateers allowed just one hit over the first seven innings against Stephen F. Austin's offense. Fabelo went 5-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. He also scored three runs for New Orleans.
WIN-LOSS
Smith dominated over five innings, allowing just one hit and one walk. He recorded five strikeouts and needed just 60 pitches to get through five frames. The loss went to Jacob Stobart (6-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers jumped on the scoreboard with a three-run second inning. A single by Gaige Howard was followed by a two-run blast from Kennard off the left field foul pole. Two doubles came from the next three batters to add the third run of the inning.
Smith was in cruise control early. He struck out the first four batters he faced and didn't allow a baserunner until a two-out walk in the third. The first hit for Stephen F. Austin came on a bunt single by Antonio Lima to start the fourth.
New Orleans added more to their lead in the sixth inning. The first three batters of the inning got aboard to set the stage. A double to deep center by Collin Morrill plated two runs to make it 5-0. A sac fly RBI brought home Scott Crabtree to extend the advantage to 6-0.
INSIDE THE BOX
Darren Willis also added to the hit party with two including an RBI double in the second. Luther Woullard hit his third homer of the year to lead off the seventh inning. Morrill had three RBI to run his season total to 35. Senior relievers, John Barr and Zach Thompson each threw a scoreless inning of relief. Bailey Holstein got the ninth.
