BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (0-1) suffered a 4-0 loss on Sunday to the defending Atlantic 10 champion, VCU Rams (1-0) at the LSU Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams got ahead quickly, securing the doubles point. Daniel Khin and Timo Zgraggen notched a 6-3 win at flight three over
Max Heinzel and
Espen Lagarde. Later at flight one, Inigo Torres Martin and Rayane Stable earned a break that held up to a 6-4 win, which gave the Rams the first point of the day.
At flight two, VCU was also up a break at 5-3.
SINGLES
Stable finished off a 2-0 day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory to give the Rams their second point. Stable returned after a 12-10 mark for VCU in 2018-19.
Khin also won his second match of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph. The match was sealed at flight one when Charles Bertimon ran to a first set victory, dropping only one game. Bertimon earned a late service break in the second set to take the match 6-1, 7-5.
NOTABLES
Lagarde was up a set and a break against Tomas Balazi at flight six when the match was decided. Max Westkamp took Torre Martin, the 109
th ranked player in the nation, to a first set tiebreak.
NEXT UP
The Privateers open their home slate on Tuesday against the Prairie View A&M Panthers. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start.
