Colonels take Round One 77-72

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (6-14, 2-8) battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a second half lead but were defeated 77-72 by the Nicholls Colonels (14-7, 8-2) on Saturday evening at the Lakefront Arena.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Three Privateers landed in double figures in scoring. Troy Green's 21 points led the way for New Orleans. Bryson Robinson added 16 points while Jahmel Myers chipped in with 11. Green Robinson, and Berzat had three assists apiece. Charles Bohannon finished with seven points.

FIRST HALF
Both teams were efficient to start the game as Nicholls hit eight of their first 13 shots. The Privateers were 6-of-11 from the field in the same time span. The Colonels never led by more than six points in the first 13 minutes but held the advantage for nearly 10 minutes.

Nicholls was able to separate to a 38-26 lead on an 8-2 run. A quick five-point spurt by the Privateers trimmed the Colonels lead to seven which forced a timeout by the road side. After the stoppage, Nicholls scored on their last four possessions and took a 44-34 lead to the locker room.

Robinson's first triple at the 11:53 mark of the first half moved him into fourth place on the program's all-time list.

SECOND HALF
New Orleans began the half with eight points in the first 2:20. That stretch shaved the Nicholls lead in half. The Privateers got the lead down to a point with 13:27 remaining off a Robinson mid-range jumper.

Both ends of a 1-and-1 trip at the free throw line converted by Green gave New Orleans their first lead of the second half with 8:23 remaining. The Privateers led by as much as five but Nicholls took the lead for good with 4:08 left on a three-point play by Warith Alatishe.

The Privateers forced 14 Colonels miscues in the second half and 21 for the game. Elvis Harvey Jr. led all Colonels scorers with 22 points.
