HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Three matches, three wins. The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (3-0) was dominant in doubles to set the tone in a 6-1 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers (0-5) on Saturday afternoon.
DOUBLES
It was an emphatic first point for the Privateers that began with a 6-0 win.
Lea Alguacil and
Claudette Gilhespie, who secured the doubles clinching point on Friday against Jackson State, were first off the court against the Rattlers.
Tristanne Dechoux and
Yurina Asai also had no trouble in their match at flight one. The Privateers' duo dropped just one game in their victory to seal the first point.
Ank Vullings and
Mar Gendra were ahead 4-3 when the point was decided.
SINGLES
Gilhespie, who roared back to win on Friday, carried that momentum to the match today. Gilhespie won 6-0, 6-2 to set the tone for the Privateers.
Dechoux continued her strong start to her collegiate career. The freshman won 6-3, 6-1 and has not dropped a set in singles this week.
The deciding point came from Alguacil who posted a 6-2, 6-3 win. Vullings and Gendra both won their matches at flight one and four in straight set fashion.
Florida A&M's only point came from Aylen Huebart at flight two.
FROM THE COACH
"We played well across the board in singles and doubles. Tomorrow's match against Southern Miss should be a good challenge for us. We are looking forward to playing them after a few years of not having them on our schedule."
