NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (5-0) continues to remain unblemished on the season after a pair of 7-0 victories. The Privateers swept Southern in the early afternoon hours and followed with a 7-0 decision over Loyola at the University Tennis Center.
SOUTHERN
The Privateers got out to a quick start in doubles and only dropped three games in the two matches that went into the first point of the day.Â
Ank Vullings and
Annalena Eggestein teamed up for what was the first of two doubles victories on the day, a 6-1 decision at flight two.
Tristanne Dechoux and
Yurina Asai followed with a 6-2 victory at flight one to give the Privateers the first point against the Jaguars.
Five of the six matches went in straight sets as the Privateers set a strong tone for the day.
Lea Alguacil and
Claudette Gilhespie were the first two off the court after they won their matches with just a combined five games lost in the process.
Dechoux, who has already scored a Southland Player of the Week award, decided the match with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.
Mar Gendra and Vullings also pulled in straight set victories.
Salma Abdelrahim had to rally from down a set to win at flight two. Abdelrahim came through with a 10-3 victory in the third set tiebreak to finish off the first sweep.
LOYOLA
The Privateers put an exclamation point on the weekend as they lost just two games in doubles. Dechoux and Asai scored a 6-1 win and Vullings and Eggestein followed with a 6-1 win of their own.
In singles, every match was finished in straight sets. Between the six matches, Loyola won just 13 games in singles. Vullings got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Gendra lost just one game en route to a straight set victory at flight four. The deciding point was again scored by Dechoux who won 6-2, 6-1 at flight three.
Gilhespie, Abdelrahim, and Alguacil also won their matches in dominating fashion as the Privateers put the finishing touches on their third sweep of the spring season.
