Men’s Hoops in the Zone in 84-73 Win

HAMMOND, La. – Bryson Robinson went 8-of-13 from three-point range to pace the potent New Orleans offense to an 84-73 victory over Southeastern Saturday afternoon at the University Center. Robinson finished with 29 points and seven rebounds. The eight triples were one shy of tying the program record – which he tied last season at Central Arkansas (James Parlow).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Privateers shot 53.8 percent from the field in the opening stanza.
  • New Orleans went 7-of-10 from deep and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
  • Robinson was 6-of-8 from deep for a high 18 points. The senior added five rebounds in the opening half.
  • The fourth triple of the stanza moved B-Rob to third on the program's three-pointers made list, surpassing Tory Walker's 177. No. 2 in UNO is Robinson's former teammate Christavious Gill (198).
  • The Privateers wasted no time as they asserted control from the opening tip with a 9-2 run. The lead eventually grew as large as 16 with just inside of 10 minutes left in the half on Rodney Carson's first bucket of the game.
  • UNO outrebounded the Lions 17-10. They also turned eight Southeastern turnovers into 13 points.
  • The Privateers began the second half on a 10-0 run (going back to first) to add to their cushion. UNO led by 16 at the under-16 media. Overall, the second began 8-2 in favor of New Orleans.
  • New Orleans continued to shoot the ball well in the second and finished the game 52.8 percent from the floor, 9-of-16 from deep and 19-of-22 from the stripe.
  • Gerrale Gates came off the bench with 17 points and six boards.
  • Jahmel Myers added 11 points and Troy Green recorded 14 points and seven assists.
 
OPPOSITION
  • The Lions were led by Tyron Brewer's 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting to pace Southeastern.
  • Two others reached double figures – Nick Caldwell (13 points, six rebounds) and Von Julien (10 points, six assists).
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Privateers had four reach double figures for the 11th time this season (6-5).
  • Robinson reached 20+ points for the 13th time in his career.
  • Carson made his first collegiate start.
