Fourth Quarter Comeback Propels Women’s Basketball To Second Straight Victory

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans women's basketball team trailed by three points heading into the final quarter but the Privateers kept their composure and pulled off the comeback to defeat visiting UIW 61-57 in a Southland Conference contest at the Lakefront Arena on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Asia Woods led the charge with her sixth double-double of the season as she finished with a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds, just a single board off her career-high. She also chipped in a career-high tying five assists to go along with two steals.
- Dionjhae Thomas recorded a season-high 14 points to go with five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
- Freshmen Mia Deck scored eight points and Nia Jordan had six on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting night from the field to round out the Privateer attack.
- The vibes early in the game showed that it would be a close one throughout the evening as the Cardinals ended the first with a small 13-11 lead.
- The two teams battled hard in a close affair in the second, with UIW able to hold a 16-14 edge to take a 29-25 lead into halftime.
- New Orleans started to battle back in the third as they held a 15-14 advantage to cut the Cardinals lead to just three heading into the fourth.
- It was all Privateers in the final frame as the team ended the fourth with a seven-point advantage to close out the 61-57 victory. Woods scored six of her points in the fourth while Thomas added five of her own. Five Privateers contributed in the scoring column during the final quarter.
- The Privateers held a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint.
- New Orleans also finished with 25 points off of turnovers (compared to UIW's 10), 17 second chance points, 15 fast break points and 17 points off the bench.  
 
FOR THE FOES
- The Cardinals had three double-digit scorers, led by Macy Ray's 14 points. She also contributed three steals.
- Kara Speer chipped in 12 points to go with three rebounds and two assists.
- Luden Henry added 10 points of her own to go with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Privateers have a bye on Wednesday, which means the next time the squad will suit up will be with their road trip out to McNeese on Saturday Feb. 22. Tip off is set for 1 PM.
