NEW ORLEANS –
Johannes Klein rallied back from a set down as the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (3-1) held on for a 4-3 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (5-1) on Friday at the University Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
The day started with a dominating performance in doubles.
Misha Fomenkov and Klein linked up for a victory by two breaks (6-2) over Guillermo Agost and Jordi Blanchar. The point was finished at flight one when
Mats Westkamp and
Austin Vos put together a 6-3 victory.
Max Heinzel and
Espen Lagarde were also up a break at 5-3 on court three when what turned out to be a very important first point was decided in the home side's favor.
SINGLES
Lagarde, who came back from missing the last two matches, didn't skip a beat. He carried his momentum to singles with a strong 6-2, 6-1 victory over Blanchar to put the Privateers up 2-0.
Jacksonville State got their first point at flight two from Joaquin Vallejo in straight sets to get on the board.
Westkamp responded for New Orleans with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to move his singles record to 3-0. All wins have come at flight one.
Aljaz Kaplja put the Gamecocks back within a point with a straight set victory at flight five. However, the Privateers won the day with Klein who had to rally back from an early deficit.
The junior lost the first set to freshman, Dmitrii Vasilev. However, Klein came back with a solid two sets for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will take on Loyola (La.) on Saturday at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
