NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (8-6, 0-1) had a comeback attempt fall just short in a 4-3 loss to the Nicholls Colonels (8-6, 1-0) on Friday night at Maestri Field.
WIN-LOSS
Trever Kilcrease picked up the win, his first decision of the season.
Chris Turpin took the loss (1-1). The save went to Joe Taylor, his fourth of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers took seven innings to get on the scoreboard and it was
KC Simonich who took an 0-2 pitch the other way to score
Salo Iza. The Colonels got a run back in the eighth which came on the back of two Privateer errors.
New Orleans then threatened to rally in the eighth as three singles and a walk started the inning. Joe Taylor got a strikeout for the first out, but
Jackson Murphy followed with a sac fly to cut the deficit to one.
Darren Willis came up and looked to drop one into shallow right, but Nathan Tribble made a diving catch to keep the Colonels in front. The ninth passed with the Privateers being retired in order by Taylor in 13 pitches.
The Colonels got a first inning run when the first of four errors in the field scored Dane Simon. Nicholls added two more in the sixth with two outs on an infield single from the bat of Ethan Lege and ensuing error.
