CONWAY, Ark. – The New Orleans Privateers (6-2, 1-2) lost a second consecutive heartbreaker by a 4-3 margin, to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (9-5, 3-0) on Friday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts.
DOUBLES
The Sugar Bears were able to separate early in a 6-2 victory at flight one to take the first match. The second match to finish saw Central Arkansas get a single break to win 6-4 and take the opening point in a hotly contested match.
SINGLES
The Sugar Bears went up 2-0 after a win from Fuka Nonoyama at flight two in straight sets in the first singles match to go on the board.
New Orleans answered for their first point with
Mar Gendra. She kept her singles record unblemished (8-0) with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Yada Vasupongchai. That represented just the second loss for Vasupongchai in singles this season.
The Privateers leveled the score at 2-2 with a win from
Claudette Gilhespie at flight five. Gilhespie moved to 7-1 on the year with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Central Arkansas then won the next two matches to seal the victory. A three-set win by Jaeun Lee was followed up by a 7-6, 6-3 win from Maja Gledic.
The last point was decided when
Ank Vullings defeated defending Southland Player of the Week, Chunxi Xin. Vullings recovered from dropping the first set and won the last two sets by a service break for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to Northwestern State on Sunday. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
