Parrish, WIlliams Go for 11 Kills Each in Defeat to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to end a marathon of a Saturday afternoon at the Wellness Center.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Kai Williams and Alexis Parrish co-led the way in kills for the Privateers with 11 each. Both reached double digits in kills in each of the two matches on the day. Williams added six digs while Parrish was in on two blocks.
 
Sheilah Purcell led the way in digs with 12. Hannah Volpi finished with nine digs. The Privateers had seven total blocks on the match. Individually, Shelby Pullins led the way with four. Lucie Pokorna finished with 30 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans was down 10-4 to begin the opening set. After an early timeout, the Privateers threatened but could not get back on level terms throughout the remainder of the opening set.
 
In the second set, the Privateers got out to a 4-1 advantage but the Golden Eagles quickly got back on level terms. Neither team led by more than three points throughout the set but Southern Miss edged forward late as Liana Guillemaud was responsible for the last two points, both on kills.
 
The match closed down with Southern Miss using a 10-2 run to separate after the first 16 rallies were split evenly. Southern Miss hit .310 for the match and limited the Privateers to a .179 attack percentage on the day. Three Golden Eagles crested the 10-kill mark, led by Duquesne Moratzka's 12 kills.

The Privateers will open Southland Conference play on Feb. 2 when they face the Lamar in Beaumont.
