CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Trinity Jackson recorded her sixth double-double of the season and the New Orleans Privateers battled but fell short in a 3-0 decision against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Saturday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
Jackson wound up with 13 kills and 11 digs in the match. She hit .333 in 30 attempts.
Maya Scott got her second start of the season and added nine kills to the Privateer offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers battled and kept answering every Islanders challenge through the first half of the set. New Orleans had three blocks in the set and Jackson had seven kills to propel the Privateers offense. However, the Islanders hit .333 for the set and went on a 7-3 run over the last 10 points of the opening set.
Nobody led by more than three points through the media timeout. New Orleans got a balanced attack at the outset with
Sh'Diamond Holly and Jackson posting three kills each. A run of four straight points by the home side helped them to a 20-15 lead and forced a timeout. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi saw out the rest of the set for a 2-0 lead.
In the second set, both teams were highly efficient. They both hit north of .350 as a team and there were 31 kills to just four attack errors.
New Orleans again had early challenges but a late run by the Islanders sealed the set. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went on an 11-4 run to close the set and the match in their favor while maintaining the top spot in the Southland standings. Montez Uigaese had 15 kills and a .481 attack percentage on the day.
