Women’s Basketball Drops Southland Heartbreaker to Central Arkansas

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans women's basketball program suffered a heartbreaking Southland Conference defeat to the hands of visiting Central Arkansas, 47-46, at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Privateers and Sugar Bears got off to a slow start in this one as Central Arkansas was able to take an 8-4 lead after the first quarter of play.
- New Orleans got things going in the second as the Privateers knocked in 19 points to take a 23-18 edge into the half.
- The Privateers held a slight edge in the third as well, as New Orleans outscored Central Arkansas by a 17-15 margin to take a 40-33 edge into the final frame.
- Central Arkansas turned the tide in the fourth as the Sugar Bears recorded a 14-6 edge in the quarter to close out the comeback victory.
 
GAME NOTES
- Mary Delgado finished with a game-high 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. She also knocked down six of her seven free throw attempts to go with three rebounds and an assist. She finished a plus-10 on the evening in just under 31 minutes of play. It was the fifth time this season that the sophomore guard has reached double-digits in scoring so far this season. The sixth made free throws also tied a career-high.
- Dionjhae Thomas was second on the team with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. She also added four assists and two steals. It was the fourth straight game that the senior forward has reached double-digits in points and the eighth game overall this season.
- UNO had 23 points off turnovers, 22 points in the paint, 10 fast break points and 18 points off the bench.
- Six Privateers scored in total.

The Privateers continue their homestand as New Orleans takes on one of the best teams in the country, nationally-ranked Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Tipoff for the game is set for 3 PM CT and will be streamed nationally on ESPN+.
