Women's Tennis Starts Day Strong, Holds Off Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team earned the doubles point and staved off a Stephen F. Austin rally in a 4-3 win on Sunday in Nacogdoches.
 
The win moves the Privateers to 5-1 in Southland play.
 
STARTING THE DAY
After Stephen F. Austin won at flight one, the Privateers responded with a victory of their own in convincing fashion in flight three. Mar Gendra and Salma Abdelrahim won 6-2 to set the stage for flight two, which was the decider for the first point.
 
Ank Vullings and Lea Alguacil persevered and dominated the tiebreak to win 7-6 (7-2) which put New Orleans on the board.
 
SINGLES
Vullings picked up a convincing win at flight one and was first off court. She did not lose a game in the second set of a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
 
After Stephen F. Austin got on the board with a flight three win, Lina Hohnhold put the third point up for New Orleans. After taking the first set by a single break, Hohnhold controlled the second set for a 6-4, 6-1 decision.
 
Stephen F. Austin got the overall score to 3-2 with a win at flight four but Abdelrahim shut things down with her win at flight five. After falling behind a set, Abdelrahim rallied to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to give the Privateers their fourth 4-3 decision in Southland play.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will face Loyola (N.O.) on Wednesday, Mar. 24. Senior Day festivities will commence before the match as well which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
