Purcell Earns Share of Libero of the Tournament Award at New Orleans Invite

HIGHLIGHTS: TENNESSEE STATE | UTRGV

NEW ORLEANS
Trinity Jackson put forth a career high 14 kills in the second match of the day but the New Orleans Privateers (0-2) fell on the short side of two tough matches against Tennessee State and UTRGV. Both matches finished by a 3-1 score line.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
Jackson eclipsed her previous career high of 12 kills with 14 in the match against UTRGV. Jackson also added seven digs. Rita Zecchin had her first double-double as a Privateer with 12 kills and 19 digs while Sheilah Purcell added 19 digs.
 
COMING BACK
The Privateers came back from down 13-5 in the second set to take it 25-21. New Orleans and UTRGV battled it out over four sets with 26 ties and eight lead changes spread throughout. In that second set, the Privateers held UTRGV to an .048 attack percentage.
 
SEASON OPENER
In front of a vociferous crowd, the Privateers took the first set of the season against Tennessee State. However, the Tigers were able to conjure up fast starts throughout the next three sets to win the match 3-1.
 
Sh'Diamond Holly had 10 kills in 15 attempts for the Privateers. Atira Jells had nine kills and hit .444 while Zecchin added eight kills. Lucie Pokorna had 18 digs and Sheilah Purcell had 10.
 
ALL-TOURNAMENT
The Privateers had two selections to the all-tournament team in Jackson and Maxine Hayes. In her first indoor matches since 2018, Hayes recorded eight kills and was in on six blocks against UTRGV.

UP NEXT
