RUSTON, La. – The New Orleans Privateers got a career best 23 kills from
Trinity Jackson and had 13 team blocks but the Southern Jaguars staved off two New Orleans match points to win 3-2 (25-18, 14-25, 16-25, 25-21, 19-17) at the Thomas Assembly Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers and Jaguars battled back and forth in an intense match that saw 31 total ties and 18 lead changes across the five sets. There were 11 ties in the final set alone but despite hitting over 60 points higher, New Orleans was defeated for the second time on the day.
New Orleans had the advantage in kills at 64-51 for the match and looked on their way to a win with a 15-10 lead at one point in the fourth set. However, the Jaguars rallied back as New Orleans had more attack errors (10) than kills (7) for the penultimate set. Southern outscored New Orleans 11-5 for the remainder of the set.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Jackson added 15 digs, four blocks and two service aces to her career high in kills.
Alexis Parrish finished with 16 kills, 12 digs and two blocks.
Rani Williams led the team in digs with 18 and
Maite Solabarrieta had 11 digs along with 52 assists.
Maxine Walsh was in on six blocks (all block assists) along with three kills.
Atira Jells also had six total blocks to go along with seven kills.
NEXT UP
The Privateers finish out the weekend against Louisiana Tech on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
