COMMERCE, Texas – An excellent service game and a strong block helped set the stage for the New Orleans Privateers (14-12, 8-6) in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) win over the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Tuesday evening at The Field House.
New Orleans racked up nine service aces while holding the Lions to four on the night. The Privateers also held Texas A&M-Commerce to an .088 attack percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers raced out to a 9-2 lead behind four blocks in that stretch.
Chandler Lee had three rejections at the net while
Sydney Gott added another. The Lions made it interesting when they cut the Privateer lead to 15-14 but an undeterred New Orleans squad pulled away behind five kills from four different players.
Texas A&M-Commerce came back from an early deficit to surge ahead 15-12 in the second set. That's when
Maite Solabarrieta stepped to the service line and posted three aces in a row. That was part of a 5-0 run that put the Privateers ahead. They did not trail for the remainder of the set.
New Orleans held Texas A&M-Commerce to just six kills and the Lions had as many attack errors in the third set.
Maddy Rashford had a service ace to put the home team up 8-6. From that point it was all Privateers as it was through most of the night. A 6-0 run put New Orleans ahead for good and they ended the set by outscoring the Lions 19-8.
