NEW ORLEANS –
Tara Green had a career day and the New Orleans Privateers (1-6) hauled in 57 rebounds, but they were defeated 67-63 in overtime by the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes on Wednesday at the Lakefront Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers and Devilettes played a tightly contested game throughout which saw the lead change hands on 14 occasions. With the score 58-55 in favor of New Orleans inside of 20 seconds left, Lexus Eagle Chasing missed the first attempt to tie it but got another try and hit a three off an offensive rebound to tie the game at 58-58.
DeArica Pryor's contested layup in traffic did not fall in the final seconds of regulation so the two sides went to overtime.
The Devilettes got a bucket on the first possession which set off a 7-0 run. New Orleans' pressure defense helped the Privateers chip the lead down to two at 65-63. The Privateers got an offensive rebound off a free throw miss but turned the ball over.
Krisen Hunt stepped to the line and sank both free throws with 14.9 seconds remaining. The Privateers tried to answer to stay in the game but a missed three-pointer sealed the game for the visiting Devilettes.
New Orleans was trailing most of the first half but went to the locker room with a 28-27 lead, their first advantage of the contest. Neither team could kick clear in the second half. The largest lead was five points for Mississippi Valley State.
