NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers collected 13 hits on the night and raced their way to a season-opening victory over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Friday night at Maestri Field as part of the Andre Dawson Classic.
DECISIONS
Tyler LeBlanc got the win after throwing 2.1 innings of relief. The loss went to Duran who started for the Golden Lions and gave up six runs (all earned) in 5.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers racked up the run-producing hits with two outs early in the contest. The bases were loaded in the first inning after a
Miguel Useche single. That set the stage for
Travis Gober who lined a single to left that scored a pair of runs.
Two innings later,
Anthony Herron Jr. led off the third with a single and a subsequent stolen base. Three batters later,
Issac Williams singled in Herron to push the Privateer lead to 3-0.
Starter,
Brandon Mitchell did not allow a hit until the fourth inning when Karsten Vasquez led off with a single. After Arkansas-Pine Bluff notched their first run of the game, the Privateers responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
New Orleans had 13 hits spread throughout the lineup as eight of the nine starters collected a knock. The win moved Coach
Blake Dean to 5-2 in season openers in his tenure on the Lakefront.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kasten Furr went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
Amani Larry finished with a hit, two walks, a stolen base and three runs.
Pearce Howard drove in a pair of runs. Gober, Williams and
Miguel Useche each added two hits.
The pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts on the night. LeBlanc had four, Mitchell added three and
Tod Gauthe and
Collin Kulivan each had two.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will face Grambling at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Maestri Field.
