NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team got a career-high 20 points from
Jomyra Mathis but they fell 75-64 to the McNeese Cowgirls on Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers battled valiantly after falling behind by as many as 10 points in the first quarter. New Orleans came roaring back in the second though as they took the lead for the first time in the game at 31-30 on a
Zanaa Cordis jumper.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the remainder of the half and New Orleans only trailed by a point at 40-39.
The Privateers continued to remain within striking distance, down a point with 3:39 left in the quarter. McNeese though used the rest of the quarter to gain some separation as they engineered a 9-2 run for the remainder of the quarter.
The run extended to the fourth as McNeese led by as many as 13 points. New Orleans briefly got the deficit back to within single digits but overall they were held to just 10-of-32 from the field in the second half.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Mathis added nine rebounds and three steals to her career-high point total.
Nahja Scott finished with 13 points on 5-of-10 from the field.
Kyla Davis added 11 points and
Zanaa Cordis finished with 10 points.
DeArica Pryor led the way in assists with four.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to Hammond next Thursday to face Southeastern. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
