Women's Tennis Sweeps Loyola for Eighth Consecutive Meeting

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team was relentless from the start in a 7-0 win over the Loyola Wolfpack on Thursday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers took control of the match from the start. Lea Alguacil and Mar Gendra were the first pair to finish after they scored a 6-0 win in doubles at flight three.

The biggest strength of the women's team has been their doubles play which showed again as the three teams combined to lose just three games. Ank Vullings and Estelle Vanthier won 6-1 while Lina Hohnhold and Salma Abdelrahim scored a 6-2 win.

In singles, Alguacil swept through her first set and only lost one game on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight six.

Vanthier was also too much for her opponent as she only lost two games on her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at flight three.

Gendra secured a late service break to win a long first set at flight five. She used that momentum to sweep the second set on her way to a 7-5, 6-0 victory.

Vullings, Abdelrahim and Marthe Degeorges also won their singles matches without dropping a set. It marks the eighth consecutive match that the Privateers won over the Wolfpack while not losing a single point.

FROM COACH KANGA
"I think this is one of the better Loyola teams we played. Across the board the ladies were methodical and they showed a lot of poise. They executed a good game plan and this will put them in a good place to build confidence."

"The schedule continues to get stronger and preparation is the key to our success. Whoever is next on the schedule, the preparation and our game plan has to be in place. We'll take this and get ready for our conference opener against McNeese."

NEXT UP
The Privateers will face McNeese on Saturday, Mar. 12. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
