Privateers Season Ends at the Hands of the Lady Lions

KATY – The University of New Orleans women's basketball team (5-18, 3-11 Southland) saw its season come to an end in the second round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the hand of the Southeastern Lady Lions (14-10, 10-4 Southland) 80-66 on Friday afternoon at the Merrell Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jomyra Mathis made two early buckets, and Kyla Davis splashed home an early three giving the Privateers a 7-4 lead early in the first quarter before a 12-0 run for Southeastern gave the Lady Lions an 11-point lead going into the second quarter.

A steal and score by Mathis forced SLU head coach Ayla Guzzardo to call a time out with UNO trailing by just nine half way in the second quarter, but the Lady Lions responded with a layup by Caitlyn Williams and four quick points by Hailey Giaratano extending their lead to 33-19 with just under two-minutes to play in the first half.

Mathis and Pryor got a steal apiece on the last two Lady Lion possessions of the first half leading to a quick four point burst and UNO trailing by just 10 at the half.

The Lions kept the Privateers at arm's length in the third quarter - answering every time the Privateers threatened with scoring bursts of heir own. With the Privateers hitting just 4-of-12 shots in the third frame, the Lions seemingly could not miss - making seven of their nine shots in the third frame - and leading 53-35 headed into the third quarter.

UNO outscored Southeastern 31-27 in the fourth, and got as close as 11 points after Pryor's basket with under a minute to play, but the Lady Lions moved on the Saturday's semifinals and will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m.
