Privateers Rally From Five Runs Down, Defeat Oklahoma in 12 Innings

NORMAN, Okla. – Down five runs heading into the eighth inning, the New Orleans Privateers (11-5) stormed their way back then took down the Oklahoma Sooners (11-6) in 12 innings by a score of 10-7 on Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
 
It was the fourth victory in 14 games against Oklahoma and the first for the Privateers in Norman.
 
DECISIONS
Caleb Seroski (2-1) in his longest outing of the season went 4.0 innings and allowed just one unearned run. The loss went to Carson Atwood (2-2) who allowed three runs in what turned out to be the final inning.
 
AHEAD FOR GOOD
The Privateers took the lead for good in the top of the 12th inning which started on a line drive double into the gap by Jeissy De la Cruz. Two batters later, Issac Williams hit a line drive single up the middle, scoring De la Cruz.
 
Two free baserunners over the next three batters set the stage with two outs for Amani Larry who came up clutch in several situations. Larry promptly doubled to left to plate two more insurance runs. On the night, Larry had six RBI, the most by a Privateer this season.
 
RALLY TIME
New Orleans was up against it, trailing 6-1 heading to the 8th but they continued to battle and eventually got to the Sooners pen. The first four batters of the inning got hits including an RBI double and an RBI single by Anthony Herron Jr. to close the gap to 6-3.
 
In the ninth, three consecutive singles off of Jaret Godman set the stage. Larry's single to left scored two then Pearce Howard delivered his fourth hit of the night which tied the score at 6-6. Later in the inning, De la Cruz executed a squeeze play that scored Larry to give New Orleans a 7-6 lead.
 
Oklahoma got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Diego Muniz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, Seroski avoided the walk-off when he induced an infield fly and then struck out Trent Brown.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
The Privateers notched a season-best 18 hits on the night with 10 coming from Kasten Furr, Larry and Howard. Tyler Bischke also added three hits and two runs. Larry and Bischke combined for three stolen bases. Andrew Guidry, who started the ninth inning rally with a single was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
 
Tyler LeBlanc struck out six batters and allowed one run until the sixth when the Sooners scored four runs with two outs.
 
For Oklahoma, Peyton Graham led the offense with two hits and three runs. Max McGwire had two hits and a run. Jake Bennett struck out 10 batters and allowed one run on six hits in six innings of work.
