MOBILE, Ala. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team played a tough, gritty match but were ultimately defeated 5-2 by the South Alabama Jaguars on Saturday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
There was little in the match between both teams as the doubles point went to the Jaguars. A single break sufficed at flight three for Martin Bugaj and Javier Montoya. South Alabama also picked up a win at flight one to earn the doubles point while flight two was hanging in the balance at 6-5.
In singles, Montoya had a quick first set and was the first off court after a 6-0, 7-5 win. The next point was won when one of two Jaguars came back from a set down.
Jack Clements lost the first set by a double break but came back to win the next two sets which gave South Alabama a 3-0 lead in the match.
New Orleans got on the board when
Luke Joujan rallied back from a set down to beat Bugaj 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. However the match was clinched for South Alabama when at flight one, Sebastien Collard rallied from down a set and earned single breaks in each of the next two sets to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
The Privateers got their second point on the last match to finish.
Matthew Armbruster won the first set handily at 6-2. After falling just short in a tiebreak in the second set, Armbruster outlasted his opponent, Philip Bosman 7-5 in the third.
