Men's Tennis Notches Big Road Win at A&M-Corpus Christi

Hohnhold Extends Streak in Women's Tennis Loss to Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (13-5) won the doubles point and carried enough momentum to edge out the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders by a 4-3 score on Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The win is the first for the Privateers against the Islanders since joining the Southland.

The women's team, which played later in the day fell 6-1 to the Islanders.

MEN'S RECAP
A shake up in the doubles teams netted a positive result as the Privateers earned the first point of the day. Matthew Armbruster and Max Heinzel, playing together for the first time this season, scored a 6-4 win at flight three.

Akos Kotorman paired with Espen Lagarde at flight one to net a 6-3 victory that gave the Privateers the opening point of the day.

In singles, Matthieu Peres won in straight sets to give the Islanders their first point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at flight three. Ulysse Bertrand also lasted through a first set tiebreak on the way to a 7-6, 6-1 win at flight six.

However, the Privateers were able to do enough on the day to come away with the win. Heinzel dominated his first set then had to see through a close tiebreak in the second set.

The other two points were garnered in three-set wins. Luke Joujan rallied from a set down to defeat Guillermo Castaneda. Espen Lagarde went through a roller coaster match at flight four but he controlled the second set in defeating Kyohei Yamanaka 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

WOMEN'S RECAP
The women's team also had a shake up in doubles and won a match at flight three to start the day but were ultimately defeated 6-1.

Mar Gendra and Estelle Vanthier paired together for a win by a 6-3 score. However, the Islanders won the remaining two matches to take the first point of the day. They parlayed that momentum into four straight set wins in singles.

Lina Hohnhold earned the only point for the Privateers with a 6-1, 6-4 win at flight two.

The only match to go to three sets was at flight four where Leopoldine Boisseau rallied from losing a first set tiebreak and won the third set race to 10 by a 10-1 score.
