NEW ORLEANS –
Anthony Herron Jr. and
Pearce Howard combined for seven hits and eight RBI and the New Orleans Privateers (14-9) jumped ahead early in a 14-6 win over the Tulane Green Wave (16-9-1) on Tuesday at Maestri Field.
The win keeps
Blake Dean's home record against Tulane at a perfect 7-0.
DECISIONS
Kyle Khachadourian (1-1) was sharp from the outset and picked up the win. He struck out seven batters in five innings, his longest outing of the season. Carter Robinson (2-3) took the loss for Tulane after allowing three runs in two innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers wasted no time getting out to a lead. After Khachadourian retired the side with three strikeouts, the offense went to work.
Kasten Furr singled and
Amani Larry walked to start the frame. Then Herron bounced one to the left side that went into shallow left and scored the first run.
Three batters later,
Travis Gober doubled on a ball deflected by a diving Chase Englehard at second. Two runs came in to make the score 3-0.
New Orleans added two more before the Green Wave responded in the fourth inning with a Simon Baumgardt homer that cut the Privateer lead to 5-2.
However, the Privateers continued to be relentless as they took advantage of Tulane errors (six) and walks (eight). Seven of the first nine runs allowed by Green Wave pitching were unearned.
Tulane had four home runs on the night including two from Luis Aviles but the Privateers only allowed one free baserunner on a walk.
Howard and Herron both homered on the night. For Howard, he is now one home run away from moving into a tie for ninth in program history.
Furr and
Tyler Bischke each had two hits and combined for three runs scored.
In the last seven home games against Tulane, the Privateers have put up 67 runs. Tulane used nine different pitchers on the night and threw a combined 200 pitches.
NEXT UP
The Privateers have a scheduled contest against Louisiana on Wednesday at Maestri Field before heading to Houston for the weekend. Stay tuned for further developments.
