NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (7-2) fought from behind for most of the game and overcame an early three-run deficit to win 13-11 against the ULM Warhawks (1-8) on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched the series for the Privateers.
RALLY CAPS
New Orleans had to rally from a three-run deficit twice. The first time, ULM opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning. The Privateers responded with two home runs in the second, a
Travis Gober three-run blast and an
Amani Larry two-run homer to grab a 5-3 lead.
The Warhawks came back with five unanswered runs to take an 8-5 lead into the fourth. Then,
Anthony Herron Jr. drove in a pair of runs to close the gap to one. Herron wound up with a team-high five RBI on the game and he delivered again in the sixth with a two-run single to give the Privateers a 9-8 lead.
After the Warhawks took the lead briefly in the bottom of the sixth,
Jeissy De la Cruz responded with a solo homer to tie the game at 10-10.
The teams traded runs in the eighth but the Privateers busted through in the ninth inning to seal the victory. A walk by
Amani Larry and a single by
Pearce Howard put runners on the corners with one out. Herron popped a ball by the ULM dugout, which Chase DeJean caught but Larry broke for home with the plate vacated and scored the go-ahead run.
Miguel Useche added some insurance with his second double of the game that scored another run.
From there,
Caleb Seroski shut the door as he struck out DeJean on a 2-2 pitch to pick up the victory in relief.
INSIDE THE BOX
Kasten Furr scored three runs and Larry crossed the plate four times. Gober drove in four runs on two hits and
Issac Williams reached base four times (two walks, two hit-by-pitches). Seroski recorded the final five outs on the hill.
