NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (20-15, 7-6) were aggressive early and scored seven runs in the first two innings of a 13-3 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (18-21, 4-9) on Friday evening at Maestri Field.
DECISIONS
Tyler LeBlanc moved his record to 6-0 after a seven-inning complete game. It was the fourth outing of at least six innings for LeBlanc this season. Zach Garcia took the loss after allowing eight runs in three innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a strong night that started right from the opening inning. After two singles to open the game,
Pearce Howard set the stage on what was a career night with an RBI single as part of a two-run first inning.
The Islanders put a run up in the second inning but the Privateers came back with five of their own. The big hit came when Howard hit a grand slam that found its way over the left field fence for his 27
th career homer.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi narrowed the gap to 7-3 after the top of the fourth but that's as close as they got for the remainder of the night.
In the seventh, the Privateers put the finishing touches on a masterpiece with four runs.
Travis Gober doubled in a run and was followed by
Jeissy De la Cruz who hit a single that scored a pair of runs. The game ended when
Tyler Bischke singled to left field to cap what was the fourth run rule victory this season.
INSIDE THE BOX
Howard moved into the top ten in the program's career home run list and his six RBI were the most in a game in his career.
Kasten Furr and
Amani Larry combined for six hits and five runs scored.
Miguel Useche went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Issac Williams went 1-for-2 with two runs and De la Cruz had two RBI and two runs.
The Privateers are now 12-2 against the Islanders under
Blake Dean.
